PRACTICE AREAS / DEPARTMENTS:

The firm provides practically all areas of legal services. In order to do so effectively, the firm is divided into a number of departments, some of which overlap as regards the partners attached thereto. The relevant departments are:

Registration of Deeds (Conveyancing)

This department is managed by Dave Samuel, Colin Cilliers and Francois van Pletzen and covers all aspects relating to property and property law in the Free State. The work comprises the registration of all types of deeds and documents that require registration in the Deeds Office. Modern technology including specialised computer software programs are used to facilitate the obtaining of instructions, the preparation of documents and reporting to clients.

General Litigation

Daan Roberts, Denis Molyneaux, Anette Conradie and Madeleine Pretorius run this department. It comprises acting on behalf of clients and correspondents in legal proceedings in the lower and higher courts of South Africa.

Insurance Claims

The firm specialises, inter alia, in claims arising from insurance, firstly motor vehicle accident claims in terms of the South African Road Accident Fund Act and secondly claims based on short term insurance policies. Denis Molyneaux, James Grundlingh, Anthony Ostermeyer and Cindy Vorster handle these.

Labour Disputes

Cindy Vorster deals with labour disputes between employers and employees, some of which lead to trials in the relevant courts in South Africa.

Appeals to the Supreme Court of Appeal

Bloemfontein is the seat of the Supreme Court of Appeal of South Africa (“SCA”). The firm has a substantial department for the handling of appeals to the SCA from the lower courts all over the country. Daan Roberts and Morné Maree are in charge of this department. In addition, the firm also offers expertise with regard to the preparation of appeal records.

Commercial work

This department, managed by Dave Samuel, Colin Cilliers, Denis Molyneaux and Morné Maree, deals, inter alia, with the registration of companies, close corporations and trusts, and with the drafting of all kinds of contracts encountered in the commercial world.

Debt Collecting

This department, managed by Cindy Vorster and Madeleine Pretorius, handles debt collections for companies and individuals as well as institutions.

Estates

This department, falling under Colin Cilliers, handles the drafting of wills, estate planning, the administration of deceased estates.

Criminal Law

Presently three attorneys are available to assist clients with all criminal matters, namely Daan Roberts, Anette Conradie and Madeleine Pretorius
